The Best Atlas EVER!!!!!!

People if you out to learn anatomy, please do not think you can get a All-in-One anatomy atlas that contains EVERYTHING. It is simply not possible because of the depth of the subject.
Anatomy is not simple. One has to "imagine" every anatomical detail in one's brain without actually seeing things in 3-D.
There are a lot of Netter's enthusiasts, but let me assure you that you have to see the art-work and beauty of this atlas.The drawings are PHENOMENAL and you dont get even 20 % quality of pics in those "Look inside this book" options on Thieme website or on Google book reviews and other sites.
The other good thing about this atlas is that gives an "overall" views for various systems eg arterial, venous systems for various systems. This atlas "gets close to the tree, but never loses the sight of the forest". And thats what you need when you are studying anatomy to be a good doctor-Never lose the perspective; Never forget the BIGGER picture.
I already have a Sobotta and I am going to buy the other two in the series (Neck and Internal Organs and General Anatomy and Musculoskeletal System). If I knew about this atlas I probably would have gone for it earlier (I still would have gone for Sobotta since that is a great one too). I have always seen Netter's around and I have never liked it. I think it is overrated and people cant spend on THREE atlas series but guys let me assure you---> this atlas is the REAL deal.
There are some descriptions as well as but that is superficial and still you have to read proper text book (eg Keith L Moore etc).
Another strength is the clinical correlates with regional anatomy which is really helpful for students .
I am planing to do a video review of this atlas comparing it will Sobotta since many people are not aware of these gems but till then!!!!

Two years later, I continue to admire the fantastic artwork of this atlas (I have all three volumes :-).
The drawings are breathtakingly detailed and impressive. Colour scheme is nice and subtle.
While studying neuroanatomy, I tried using illustrations from "Snell's Neuroanatomy", but that was clearly a mistake. Snell's neuroanatomy does have good descriptive text, but its illustrations are horrible (in general). Many drawings are meant to be 3-D but appear to be 2 D or some weird orientation which is neither 3D nor 2D. Net result: you get more confused.
Go to spinal cord's blood supply in Snell's , and then check out the corresponding drawings from Thieme Atlas. This is the best Atlas out there . A little bit of text in this atlas also adds to the enjoyment.
Simply go for this one as FIRST choice.

Simply Amazing!!! The Best Neuro Book I Have Ever Read!!!

I bough this book after I found myself drowning in the first 2 weeks of my neurosciences module during the first year of med school. A friend of mine showed me the copy he had bought after being told to do so by several different physicians who he had told he was in his neuro module in school. I rarely ever post reviews about books because for the most part many are very average, but that is not the case with this book! This book is amazing! I literally do not know how people who don't have this book are even passing neuroscience in medical school! Take my advice, buy this book and never look back - it will be the best decision you ever made when it comes to neuroscience in medical school

so it is difficult to get a good feel of their relations to each other

I was looking for a book for neck and facial anatomy, less so neuroanatomy. I don't think there is enough detail, and from my use of the book, the individual systems (blood vessels, nerves, etc.) are presented in isolation, so it is difficult to get a good feel of their relations to each other.
I prefer Netter's Head and Neck Anatomy for Dentistry, it's very detailed and much better for an ENT, Maxfax or Plastic surgeon, rather than a neurosurgeon.

Rare History

Most have heard and studied the Greek and the Romans, but before Europe ruled the wrold, there were the Persians. The Medes and Persians survived the Empires of the Assyrians and the Babylonians, before granted their time in history. One of the most structured and orgainized empires of the ancient world, it had an impact on world history, Juduaism, and later Christdom. Alexander the Greek went to Hellenize the world and ended up being influenced by the Persian culture he conquered. Tremendous book of an interesting time of history.

Impressive. Worth the Time to Read.

This book is utterly remarkable. Well written and incredibly comprehensive iteration of the scope, flow and detail of the empire that was Persia, from early pre-Empire times to the Alexandrian conquest (and a bit beyond). It discusses legal, social, military, architectural, religious and business practices, inter-familial rivalries, conquests,etc., in remarkable detail, and it even puts Biblical history of the Jews in exile in context. It captures aspects of the ruling style and methods of the Mede and Persian rulers. It is simply a great and literally huge book, by a Professor whose depth of knowledge and love of his subject is inspiring, even several decades after his death.

Old But Still Kicking

While I'm sure that the information in "The History of the Persian Empire" must have been superceded to a degree in the 50 years since it has been published, and it is likely that Olmstead may have been overly sure of facts, this book is a pleasure to read and a mine of cultural food for thought. I fear the reviewer above who managed to finish the book knowing next to nothing about ancient Persia is saying more about herself than this book. I was chiefly interested in the religious and cultural aspects of the Persian period, rather than the military and political ones, and I have come away from this book considerably more enlightened than I was by Edwin Yamauchi's treatment of Persia. Olmstead is both a vivid and readable writer, witty, detailed and fair-minded. His treatment of the Zoroastrian religion was eye-opening for me, and the way he deals with Palestine and Egypt was also illuminating. I especially got a kick out of his paraphrase renditions of some ancient documents and inscriptions at a purely aesthetic, and somewhat humorous, level. I'm sure there's still more to know, but this is a terrific overview.

Buy the paperback not the Kindle Edition

The content of the book is wonderful, so much so that I bought a paperback copy and mailed it to my son. The Kindle edition is horribly edited and contains spelling errors and missed words. A chart in the final chapters of the book was cut off so that it is unreadable. Do your self a favor and just buy the real thing.

Wonderful topic/horrible editing

The topic of depression has an awful stigma among Christians. This book explains why we need medications to fix the physical aspects of depression. But it also explains the need for spiritual healing.
The only reason I do not give this book all 5 stars, someone failed to check and fix the many typos. There are times when it is difficult to determine exactly what the authors are stating. If this electronic edition does get "fixed" I feel all who purchased the original(this version) should be offered the updated version free of charge.

It is so clear that most everyone I know, should read this book. It gives detail of where you have been and where your heading. There is Help and most of it is what you can do for yourself.
I have a friend that is moving in with me, that has had a hard life and up in age, needs this HOPE, She is at the Bottom at this point
I believe it is of God, she is coming, She needs new Hope in Christ Jesus. He is our only Hope.
We both are Widows and I have been there.

Q. What did it take to write Big Data?

A. Kenn has written about technology and business from Europe, Asia, and the US for The Economist, and is well-connected to the data community. Viktor had researched the information economy as a professor at Harvard and now at Oxford, and his book Delete had been well received. So we thought we had a good basis to make a contribution in the area. As we wrote the book, we had to dig deep to find unheard stories about big data pioneers and interview them. We wanted Big Data to be about a big idea, but also to be full of examples and success stories -- and be engrossing to read.

Q. Are you big data’s cheerleaders?

A. Absolutely not. We are the messengers of big data, not its evangelists. The big data age is happening, and in the book we take a look at the drivers, and big data’s likely trajectory: how it will change how we work and live. We emphasize that the fundamental shift is not in the machines that calculate data, but in the data itself and how we use it.

Q. In discovering big data applications, what was your biggest surprise?

A. It is tempting to say that it was predicting exploding manholes, tracking inflation in real time, or how big data saves the lives of premature babies. But the biggest surprise for us perhaps was the very diversity of the uses of big data, and how it already is changing people’s everyday world. Many people see big data through the lens of the Internet economy, since Google and Facebook have so much data. But that misses the point: big data is everywhere.

Q. Is Big Data then primarily a story about economic efficiency?

A. Big data improves economic efficiency, but that’s only a very small part of the story. We realized when talking to dozens and dozens of big data pioneers that it improves health care, advances better education, and helps predict societal change—from urban sprawl to the spread of the flu. Big data is roaring through all sectors of the economy and all areas of life.

Q. So big data offers only “upside”?

A. Not at all. We are very concerned about what we call in our book “the dark side of big data.” However the real challenge is that the problem is not necessarily where we initially tend to think it is, such as surveillance and privacy. After looking into the potential misuses of big data, we became much more troubled by “propensity” -- that is, big data predictions being used to police and punish. And by the “fetishization” of data that may occur, whereby organizations may blindly defer to what the data says without understanding its limitations.

Q. What can we do about this “dark side”?

A. Knowing about it is the first step. We thought hard to suggest concrete steps that can be taken to minimize and mitigate big data’s risk, and came up with a few ways to ensure transparency, guarantee human free will, and strike a better balance on privacy and the use of personal information. These are deeply serious issues. If we do not take action soon, it might be too late.

For Ryan Ward, 17, the baseball diamond leads to much more than just a winning season in this exciting and moving novel from Deuker (Heart of a Champion, 1993, etc.). Until Josh Daniels and his family move in across the street during the summer, Ryan seems destined for mediocrity at Seattle's Crown Hill High. Eager for a friend, Ryan tags after the charismatic, athletically gifted Josh, a pitcher; while they play catch, Ryan realizes that he enjoys catching and thinks of trying out for the varsity team. But Ryan's plans are put on hold when autumn rolls around and Josh concentrates on the football team. Throughout the novel, his single-minded, nearly ruthless ambition is shown as the opposite of Ryan's nagging insecurities. The image of himself as Josh's toady drives Ryan to begin working out months before baseball season. Josh's careful maneuvering during practice shows Ryan at his best, and he makes the varsity cut; the team's unprecedented success is achieved largely through the symbiosis between the boys as pitcher and catcher. There the connection ends: Josh, master of high school politics, grows more arrogant while Ryan blossoms with newfound confidence. A championship season seems clinched until Josh, in a wolf mask, assaults a female classmate who has embarrassed him. Ryan interrupts the assault and recognizes Josh. Deuker, adept at capturing the thrills during the game, also proves talented at dramatizing Ryan's torment in the face of his friend's deeds; the depiction of a boy coming into his own is resonant and inspiring. About the Author
Dr. Frank Munz is an expert in middleware and distributed computing. He earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the Technische Universität München for his work on distributed computing and medical imaging in brain research. He published more than 20 peer reviewed scientific papers. In 2011 Frank received the Oracle Technologist of the Year award for cloud computing. Useful literature and documentation for all WebLogic 12c projects

With this book, Frank Munz summarizes together valuable information from many years of substantial IT project experience. It covers topics starting from the selection of the underlying JVM for the Application Server to the proper setup of the JMS cluster. There is a particular focus on the setup of high availability cloud scenarios and other advanced topics related to distributed applications with WebLogic 12c.

The book shows the common issues in distributed Java EE web applications meaningful and adequate down to the level of architectures and system setups. And it shows the solution for typical pitfalls of administration and setups of a distributed server environment.
I could read the book as a technical editor in advance and consider it an important and useful addition to the existing literature and documentation for all WebLogic 12c projects. It is also worth reading for IT professionals who work for a long time with WebLogic, because there is always something new to discover!

Finally, a truly fresh source of practical wisdom!

After meeting the author Frank Munz at one of his Sydney workshops I've been keeping an eye out for this book he promised. And what a cracker!
One of the refreshing things about this book is that it's written by an independent consultant with hands-on experience. So the author doesn't just describe what he likes, but is also honest about Weblogic shortcomings and the consequences.
The Node Manager chapter was especially useful, answering plenty of key questions.
Don't make me wait so long next time Frank!

Helpful recommendations

I am usually working with other technologies but looking more into WebLogic now. This is the only good book covering WebLogic 12c I could find. By browsing the topics of the "WebLogic Distinctive Recipes" I discovered helpful recommendations, e.g. regarding WLST (good webcast tutorial!) or the discussion about file vs. JDBC persistent stores (interesting: it's not always about performance; reconnect issues, availability ...).
Content and length of the recipes are just right for me!
